Which hands the premise something the rest of this shelf has to fake: a reason the situation survives becoming awkward. Cancelling mid-term means explaining yourself to an institution, so the door stays shut without the script having to lock it.

Where the girlfriend stands

Partners on this shelf are usually shifted out of the way: a night shift, a work trip, an errand. She is none of those. She proposed the placement, she is pleased with how it went, and she is in the house the whole term.

Bottom line

Better structured than the premise sounds. A deadline, a reversal declared up front and a partner who set the whole thing in motion leave the run plenty to work with. What the open pair has to answer is how much the girlfriend sees.
